Levitt Pavilion is moving closer to becoming reality in San Jose, providing the first phase of the city’s plan to revitalize and transform St. James Park. The Levitt Foundation partners with communities to transform underutilized spaces into destinations for people from all walks of life through free public concerts. If the project is completed, San Jose would be the eighth city in the country to have a Levitt Pavilion.

In ancient Greek cities, the agora brought people together in the same space for daily life, including commerce, politics, and social interaction. This was at a time when the European idea of democracy, or “people power” was conceived. There is a direct relationship between people sharing space with one another and caring about one another. Inclusive public space that brings together diverse people from all walks of life is more important than ever for sustaining democracy.

Park Paseo

The transformation of Park Paseo from an oversized vehicular boulevard to a pedestrian-first garden street acts as the next stage of CMG’s San Jose Streetlife Plan – a social and ecological innovation in the heart of downtown San Jose. Beginning at the front steps of the Center for Performing Arts, Park Paseo will be a prototype for social attractions and amenities, and a leading example of a verdant urban plaza that prioritizes public life.

Bay Meadows

CMG has been working from entitlement to construction to create 15 acres of new parks at the transit-served Bay Meadows. The large-scale, mixed-use planning and design project creates an impact at a neighbourhood scale, including; a wetland to filter stormwater and create habitat, social streets with small parks and a beer garden, world class public art, playgrounds, community gardens and a 12-acre city sports park, operated by the City of San Mateo.
